Sharpen the Saw
“Sharpening the saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have…you.”-Stephen Covey
What is your greatest asset? Money? Time? Most of us don’t think of ourselves as our greatest asset. In fact, I would venture to say that most of us think of ourselves last. Everything else comes before us.
Reality is, YOU are your greatest asset. All of the ideas, goals, and dreams begin and end with you. If there’s no you, there are no goals, no ideas, no dreams. The service or product that is unique to you ceases to exist. So, it’s important to sharpen your saw and make sure you are the best version of yourself in order to benefit everyone connected to you.
How does one “sharpen the saw”? There are tons of ways to preserve and enhance your physical, emotional, mental, and business self. Take some of these into consideration:
- Do something physical everyday. Go for a walk, a run, go to the gym, ride a bike-do something that gets your heart rate up. Your physical well being is just as important as the rest of you. The entrepreneurial lifestyle is busy, but it can’t be too busy for your physical well-being.
- Continue your education-whatever that looks like. Classes, seminars, reading books, attending conferences and seminars-there are so many ways to educate yourself. There are new things to learn every single day. The minute you stop learning you become stagnant. Don’t neglect your mind in the busy-ness of your business.
- Recharge. I know, I know, we are constantly pushing the hustle, but you must take time to recharge. Go off the grid and get yourself right. Pursue your hobbies outside of your business.
Sharpening your saw will make you a better person all the way around. There’s more to life than the grind. And those things keep you balanced and well-rounded. You are more than just your business.
